Funeral Directions

In the unfortunate case of a COVID-19 infection being fatal, it is important to be careful with handling the body because transmission of the virus is still possible. General guidelines for such funerals are as follows:

  • Those handling the body need to wear the required mount of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). The Royal College of Pathologists has issued a detailed checklist to deal with this risk of infection otherwise as well.
  • Funerals themselves should be as small as possible; with only immediate family members in attendance and a distance of at least three steps being maintained between the attendees at all times.
  • Those at high-risk should not attend these funerals at all, and the other attendees should avoid direct contact with the body; which should be left to those wearing PPE.
